Podiatry and Chiropody

Foot Muscles Model

What is Podiatry

Podiatry (formerly known as Chiropody) is an area of health specialising in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of foot and lower limb conditions.

Our feet are highly complex; they contain a 1/4 of all the bones in the body, plus a vast network of muscles, ligaments and joints which are vulnerable to injury and can be affected by more than 300 conditions.

There is no difference between Podiatrists and Chiropodists.

Podiatry is the new and up-to-date term as the profession was renamed in 1993. Chiropody is rarely used nowadays.

Podiatrists are trained specialists that can help diagnose and treat conditions affecting the feet and lower limbs. Which often results in improvements in other parts such as reducing back and hip pain.

Podiatrists can keep people mobile and active, relieve pain and treat infections.

How can Podiatry help

Podiatry can help with a wide range of foot and lower limb conditions and disorders.

  • Nail management, hard skin, cracked heels

  • Removal of corns and callus

  • Verrucae and warts – including Falkner's needling and Swift microwave therapy (NEW)

  • Ingrown toenail treatment and nail surgery

  • Posture and gait analysis

  • Biomechanical examination

  • Provision of insoles and orthotics

  • Foot treatment for patients suffering from diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and poor circulation

When your feet hurt, you hurt all over.

A visit to a podiatrist can dramatically improve mobility and maintain fit, active and pain-free feet.

Our registered Podiatrists are happy to talk to you about your health and how you may benefit from a podiatry treatment.

Yvonne Strand

Podiatry Assitant
Alumni, Royal College of Podiatry (43160)

Hi there, I'm Yvonne, your dedicated Podiatry Assistant. A distinguished alumnus of the Royal College of Podiatry who dedicated her career to keeping toenails healthy and in check since 2015.

My journey began as an NHS Healthcare Assistant at Kettering General Hospital, working in a surgical ward. The hospital corridors eventually led me to join the NHS Diabetic Specialist Podiatrists team, where I continue to practice.

Here at Podiatry Plus, I will complement podiatrists' work by providing expert toenail control and maintenance.

So, whether it's a routine nail check or toenails that got long or out of control, you are in experienced hands. And by working alongside podiatrists, any further complicated conditions can be easily referred on.
